L’Atelier Music and Dance School- Normandy, France
Building: L’Atelier Music and Dance School
Location: Normandy, France
Architects: AAVP (Atelier Architecture Vincent Parreira)
Completed: 2013
Structural Engineer: Beton Ingenerie
AE Interests: the facade is made entirely of purple slate imported from Canada usually only used for prestigious buildings, a journey into the building from the “adult rooms” at the entrance into the children’s dance and reading rooms deeper into the new building, the woodwork makes the rooms feel voluminous and large (cathedral-like), open sky windows to give natural light to the dance and reading rooms, pumice looking ceilings make the dancing room feel very “light”- (just as dancers should be light on their feet), angular form
