Location: Shanghai, China
Architect: Snøhetta
Local Partner: ECADI
Completion: 2023

AE Interests: Identified by the 13th 5-year Plan set out in the 2010 Shanghai EXPO as a major cultural landmark. Three separate auditoriums housing 2000, 1200, and 1000 seats. Large spiral staircase with prominent cantilevers which expresses vertical motion and opens up the roof to pedestrians.

AE Interests: Traditional space, large open roof used for gatherings and socializing, multi-use space, specially designed to fit into its environment without overshadowing natural beauty, challenging site to work with, three separate room designs to add variable space, steel columns.

AE Interests: Site is located in a natural park, so the building was designed carefully to not intrude on the natural beauty of the location. Facade is engineered to mimic bamboo forests. Perimeter of the building is designed to allow for expansion of the building in the future. Multi-use space featuring a museum and multiple spaces for events.
