AE Interest: Triangular footprint, 26.4m front, 1.3m rear; placed directly between two buildings. Facade is built from sheet and corrugated metal. Texture and color of the metals allow for the building to fit in with its more classical neighbors; cantilevered elements on the facade match the massing in adjacent building. Part of larger “Hafen City” development. [a]

AE Interests: Curved aluminum sheets along the exterior wall create a cloud like appearance; panels provide both aesthetics and solar shading. Structural elements are cast concrete; mixed use complex; [a] no air conditioning required; all cooling is done by pumping cool water through the walls. Located adjacent to the Rhine River; micro climate terraces throughout the upper floors. [b]

AE Interests: Government and community mixed use space. Designed to remedy problems with an adjacent earlier Rural Studio project. Equal emphasis on cost effective and sustainable materials.[a] Exterior walls are built from laminated Cypress timber beams. Windows and doors are set outside of the walls. Extremely well adapted to local climate challenges. Open gable roof allows for passive cooling of the spaces below.[b]
Creates a new boundary for outdoor communal space.
