Crystal Towers – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Posted in Under Construction by Will Clinton on August 30, 2011

Building: Crystal Towers
Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Architect: Henning Larsen Architects
Structural Engineers: Thornton Tomasetti
MEP: Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers
Completion: 2013
AE Interests: Erratic window placement creates a very unique, natural appearance. The buildings are not perfectly squared, instead slightly twisting in a very organic progression. Vastly different than the normal, rectangular shapes of high rise buildings.

Low Energy Office Building – Ballerup, Denmark

Posted in Built by Will Clinton on August 30, 2011

Building: Low Energy Office Building
Location: Ballerup, Denmark
Architect: Henning Larsen Architects
Engineers: Hansen, Carlsen, & Frolund Consulting Engineers
Completion: Projected 2011
AE Interests: Very open lower floor that encourages group work and creativity. The second-floor boasts curving slats that mimic tidal waves, as well as allows for natural light to enter easily. With the first floor’s use of columns and windows instead of a traditional facade, the second floors “tidal wave” illusion is more evident.

Building: Spiegel HQ
Location: Brooktorkai, HafenCity, Hamborg
Architect: Henning Larsen Architects
Completion: Projected 2011
AE Interests: The two structures draw people into the central courtyard, which is surrounded by water on 3 sides. The sunken facades facing the water softens the transition from waterfront to the buildings.

Palacio de Congresos – Lanzarote, Spain

Posted in Under Construction by Will Clinton on August 30, 2011

Building: Palacio de Congresos
Location: Lanzarote, Spain

AE Interests: Even with the building’s large geometric shapes and structure, the lighting installations gives a sense of depth and weightlessness. An elevated, grand entrance into the building creates a dramatic entry. Very energy efficient sporting the latest solar cells in order to reduce carbon footprint.
