AE Interests: The three tower design was inspired by nearby barrier reefs. The external columns are covered in a limestone stucco called Thermocromex and they taper and expand to produce a vertical rippling effect, similar to that of palm trees bending away due to wind. These exterior concrete columns support post-tensioned concrete floor slabs meant to withstand the bay’s lateral winds.
