The center atrium utilizes an inverted king-truss to minimize interior columns. They were able to achieve a 100-foot column-free span across over the atrium. In order to have the bridge cross over the 120-foot roadway, they incorporated a moment-frame system to cantilever over the reinforced concrete base. For the raised structures, they used textured pour-in-place concrete to help hold up the steel-and-glass facades. The wide use of concrete was meant to reflect Utah’s mountains. It has thermally broken extensive glazing throughout to keep the building comfortable and energy efficient.
