Facade Design: Inhabit

AE Interest: Mix-use development. Emphasis on response to the surroundings. Oriented to maximize light and minimize winds, which creates a comfortable outdoor courtyard. Building shape helps air quality, noise dampening, and increases presence of natural light. LEED Gold for Core and Shell.

The Shanghai Tower – Shanghai, China

Name: Shanghai Tower

Location: Shanghai, China

Cost: $2.2 billion

Architect: Jun Xia (Gensler)

Structural Engineer: Thornton Tomasetti
MEP Engineer: Consentini Associates

Main Contractor: Shanghai Construction Group

AE Interests: Incorporates a double glass skin to help conserve heat energy, wind turbines to produce power and a rainwater collection system. The shape of the building has also been designed to reduce wind loads on the structure, reducing the amount of building materials required. It currently is the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world.

AE Interests: Five principles define the project: layers and terraces, inside and outside, vegetation, views and privacy, light and identity; The structure is carried by the core and a regular column-grid that spans up to 14.7 meters; [1] 160 floors of vertical layering.

AE Interests
Oval-shaped, multi-faceted public library. Exterior is wrapped in a textured facade with translucent fritted glass panels used to screen private study areas and clear glass used for public areas. Interior centers around a four-story atrium topped with a skylight. Multi-functional building with meeting space, activity centers, cafe, theater, reading rooms, and conference rooms. [a]
