AEInterests: In collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, the opera house sits on the converging coast of the Pearl River and the South China Sea. The outer translucent shell allows for the incorporation of natural light into both the opera house and multipurpose theater. At night the spherical shells catch the interior lighting to create a glowing beacon on the peninsula. The Opera house was constructed to encapsulate the “ancient poetic concept of ‘The river tides fluctuate along the sea level and the moon cycles together.’”
